Owner & Founder

The man at the workbench

Alan Pelc

Alan Pelc is the owner and founder of KollectNoir. He loves film and art, and he has been building things by hand for as long as he has been watching movies. Every piece that leaves the workshop is made by him, one at a time.

“Movies are my time machine. Thinking of a movie brings me right back to a certain time and place.”

From Lincoln Logs to film scenes

How It Started

A hobby that kept getting more precise, until people started asking for it.

  1. 01Upstate New York

    Lego Sets and Lincoln Logs

Alan grew up in upstate New York watching movies and building things. The two always went together. He would watch a film, then go build something. Lego sets and Lincoln Logs were the first workbench, and that idea stuck with him: a whole place can be built one piece at a time.

  2. 02Getting serious

    Model Kits and Train Layouts

As he got older the builds got harder. Model kits first, then full train layouts. Those are patient hobbies. They teach you scale, weathering, terrain, structures and wiring, and they do not forgive sloppy work. Everything KollectNoir does now was learned at that bench.

  3. 03Where it turned

    From Layouts to Scenes

Those precise, detailed hobbies branched off into dioramas and displays. What started as a fun hobby turned into a passion for bringing film scenes to life. Not a generic set piece, but the exact moment you remember, sized to fit on your shelf.

  4. 04Today

One of a Kind, Every Time

Alan's goal is to capture scenes from popular and cult movies and bring them into your living room. He builds one of a kind pieces by hand for you to display proudly. No molds, no production runs, and no second copy of the piece you own.

At the bench

How a Piece Gets Built

Built from raw material and finished by hand. No generic molds, no mass production.

Scratch-Built Structures

Every structure is cut from XPS foam, pine strips and plastic sheet. Nothing is pulled out of a kit and relabelled. The building in the photo is the building Alan made.

Weathering and Paint

Layered washes build up the dirt, rust and wear a scene should have, matched to the film instead of applied by formula. This is where the model kit years show.

Lights and Sound

Where the scene calls for it, low voltage LEDs and speakers go in by hand. Porch lights, TV glow, muzzle flash, or a theme that plays on a switch.

Built for NECA, Mezco, McFarlane and 1:12 figures, die-cast cars, or on its own as a display piece.

The repeat collector

Spruce's General Store

This vendor is amazing. I received my puchase in record time. He communicated with me throughout the course of its travel. The diorama I purchased was simply magnificent. The detail work was extraordinary. I plan to order more from this vendor.

Verified buyerc***dPast month

This buyer came back three times. He bought the Old Chief Wood'nhead store, then the Hitchhiker display, then a third piece, and left feedback on every one of them. Repeat orders are the part Alan is proudest of, because nobody buys a second one-of-a-kind build on the strength of the photos alone.

The commission that started a conversation

Higgins Haven

Better than described. Very well packaged . Arrived earlier than expected. Excellent price. Looking forward to more custom pieces from dupcustoms. We are already in talks about more items that they will be making for me. Seller HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The Part 3 barn went out and came back as a working relationship. The buyer wrote that they were already in talks about more items, which is how most of Alan's custom work begins: somebody sees a finished scene, then asks for the one they have been picturing.

Bought as a gift, kept anyway

Burt's Rec Room

Custom hand made Tremors movie scene diorama was better than described and looks even better in person than in the photos. A great value for this one-of-a-kind creation. The fine details, craftsmanship, and vision of this modeler are highly impressive. Shipped quickly and arrived well in advance of Christmas. Packaged well, product arrived fully intact with everything working properly. Bought as a gift, but not sure I can let it go.

Burt's rec room with the graboid coming through the wall, lights and all. It was bought as a Christmas gift and arrived early, fully intact, everything working. The buyer's last line is the one Alan quotes back: bought as a gift, but not sure I can let it go.
